Our Rescues

Our Goats
Larry, Mo, and Curly
These three cuties came to us from a loving owner who realized that, with an already busy day-to-day schedule, they weren’t able to give three little goats all the time and attention they deserved. Knowing the goats’ well-being was most important, they made the thoughtful decision to find them a new home here at our rescue, where they could receive the care, companionship, and attention they needed.
When they first arrived, they were very shy and a little unsure of us. They definitely weren’t the first ones to greet us when we came to the gate! But with a little patience, kindness, and time, they have come out of their shells and show us more of their sweet personalities.

Buck and Swan

Buck and Swan came to us with a heartbroken owner who had adored and cared for them for 13 years. When she had to move out of state, she found herself unable to take them with her and was determined to find them a safe and loving home.
Worried that, because of their age, there might be very few options available for two aging goats, she reached out to her local veterinarian for guidance. As luck would have it, the veterinarian she contacted was the same wonderful vet we know and trust to care for our animals. He connected their owner with us, and we were more than happy to help.
After plenty of research into caring for senior goats, along with some invaluable advice and guidance from our veterinarian, Buck and Swan settled into their new home beautifully. Today, they are a cherished part of our rescue family, and we’re so grateful their story brought them to us.
Our Chickens
Feisty Mouse
Feisty Mouse was one of the very first bantams we took in, and naturally, we had some concerns about introducing her to our much larger flock of Australorps, Barred Rocks, and Orpingtons. After all, when you have a tiny chicken joining a group of big girls, you can't help but wonder how things are going to go.
Feisty Mouse wasn't intimidated. She wasn't backing down. She wasn't interested in negotiating. She was ready to throw down and defend her place in the flock with every ounce of attitude packed into her tiny body.

The Phyllis Diller Ladies

These beauties came to us as a post-COVID rescue. Their owners had loved spending time with the girls while working remotely, but returning to work made it difficult to give them the time and care they deserved.
Knowing the girls needed more than they could provide, they reached out to a friend, who connected them with us. We were happy to welcome them into our rescue family.
Our little feisty Mouse was part of this group! You can read more about her journey in our blog.
Grandma
Meet Grandma.
Grandma came to us along with 24 other chickens when a loving couple, facing an unexpected move out of state for work, had no other options for their beloved flock.
We believe Grandma is between 13 and 16 years old. She may be well past her laying years, but she still has plenty to contribute in the form of personality, charm, and a whole lot of heart.
Nearly blind, Grandma has learned to navigate her world with help from her feathered and human friends. With time and patience, she has found her way around the yard and now manages quite well on her own. She has a few middle-aged coop mates who keep her company from time to time, but she is also perfectly content doing her own thing.

We do have more room!
Although we maxed out on the amount of roosters our rescue can take in, we do still have more room for goats and hens. If you have a goat or hen that is needing a forever safe haven home, contact us directly to provide us with more information to see if they'll be a good fit here at Sutter B's.
