Every rescue has a beginning, and ours started with one very special goat named Sutter Butter.

Sutter was an award-winning show goat who needed a place to retire when his competition days came to an end. With no permanent home waiting for him, we welcomed him to our farm in Flagstaff, Arizona. We had no idea at the time that one goat would inspire a mission that would change our lives.

As we learned more about goats, we quickly realized that Sutter needed companions. Soon, Rory and Lorelei joined the family, and our small herd began to grow. The more time we spent caring for our goats, the more we understood their unique personalities, intelligence, and social needs. We also learned that aging goats often require specialized, ongoing care and that many animals have few options when they can no longer serve their original purpose.

What began as a home for a retired show goat evolved into Sutter B’s Farm and Rescue, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing lifelong sanctuary for goats and chickens in need.

Over the years, we have welcomed additional rescue goats and expanded our flock to include nearly 50 chickens representing a variety of breeds. Some arrived through local connections, while others came to us through word of mouth when people learned of animals needing a safe place to go. Each one has their own story, and each one is valued and loved.

At Sutter B’s Farm and Rescue, we believe that every animal deserves kindness, respect, and the opportunity to live out their natural life in a safe and caring environment. We provide food, shelter, veterinary care, enrichment, and, most importantly, a forever home. Whether an animal arrives young or old, healthy or in need of extra attention, our commitment remains the same: they are family.

Today, Sutter Butter’s legacy lives on in every animal we care for. His image proudly serves as our logo and a reminder of how one goat’s retirement led to a lifelong mission of rescue, compassion, and second chances.
Thank you for being part of our story and for supporting the animals who call Sutter B’s Farm and Rescue home.
